General Hospital in Port-au-Prince
We went in the morning to visit the General Hospital of Port-au-Prince, mostly destroyed by the earthquake of January 12 . We visited services pediatrics and emergencies. Our medical team, composed the doctor Clertida Lamothe-Cassamajor of Caroline Poulin (Ex-therapist), the pharmaceutical representative Manon Poitras and nurse Nathalie Cliche , were the status and inventory needs Ave ec physicians . They witnessed many cases of dehydration, malnutrition, if Èvre, kidney problems, untreated tumors, etc..

The situation is bleak: a part of the hospital, destroyed in the quake, was relocated in wooden huts with poor ventilation and overheated. There is no nurse to take care of changing the pockets of fluid, they are emptied and tubing eventually fill with blood . The side of motherhood, HOPIT t has nothing to do with our Quebec hospitals. The rooms and corridors do so s not clean, dusty, cracked and poorly equipped. There are few skilled staff, testifies Caroline Poulin, and basic hygiene is not respected: the medical staff does not mask or gloves, except for premature babies.

Then we went to second Orphanage father Lespinasse , in the Turgeau. The orphanage is directed by Roland Lafontaine. C'e its st m AD an energetic octogenarian, who received us and told in detail how she experienced the earthquake and how the father Lespinasse was eventually found under the rubble of another building. This time, no ou will have
encountered é older children from 8 to 18. They were filled with clothing, balls, shoes and soccer uniforms, shoes, educational games and delivered soon as we have them made on behalf of all our donors.

Robert and Clertida we have then made the surp rise us arrange a stop in a small kiosk for a taste typical to ba is to beef fritters and cod. Nice little moment of relief! Robert and Patricia have not even outlined some of zouk in the street song Kassav " Zouk la sé nou ni sèl médikaman " (zouk is the drug that we necessary), has never been so actua ity.

We na same arrived earlier this afternoon in the camp called Gymnasium, because situated vis-à-vis the Vincent Gymnasium. Piled on top of each other, p read 40 families residing there nt (the camp manager, apparently exceeded, do not know the exact figure). Clertida , has ssistée of Nathalie Manon and Carolina , y cared particulièremen t women and children. They have dispensed treatment of influenza, vaginitis, stomach ulcers, worming, many of anemia, especially among women. They were also given vitamin supplements and food products. Meanwhile, new s have made the distribution of toys, educational games and soccer. We spend three hours in order to give the care and med icaments all.

For the first time, our team felt great pressure when allocatio No goods, which almost wrong st. Families com
began to scramble to come first, all in a grueling heat. But, with the advice and intervention of a sea e fam ily camp, Martine a woman admirable finally took place in any order. We and ions away from us doubt that the balls soccer have such a success: they did happiness of dozens of children (and adults) who were playing in the gymnasium immediately after covered (well, partly because water infiltration to are many).
